Temporary Emergency Shelter

For designing a temporary emergency shelter, transportation is one of the major concerns. So the design intention is to fit it into a standard size container, which can be carried immediately to the site by trucks or cargo ships. Two of these shelters can perfectly fit into a standard 40' container. The shelter consists of two major parts, which form a 7'x18'x8'H rectangular mass during transportation. On site the middle part, which consists of 2 bedrooms, will pop up by hydrolic pump, in order to separate the private space from the public space. This at the same time creates an in-between space underneath it. This space interacts with the lower part, serving as either a living room, or a kitchen, depending on the use. Furnitures, such as tables and bench are actually part of the wall of the lower unit which can be folded out. The roof of the upper unit can be folded out provide shading for the bedrooms as well as exposing the PV panels, which supply electrical energy for the shelter. Rainwater will also be collected through open ducts which lead to the water container in the toilet/bathroom for flushing and showering purposes.
